• Total production: 3 prototypes / pre-production
• The distinctive Obeikt 279 (Object 279) was a prototype built in 1959. It was intended for cross-country use and to potentially withstand a Nuclear shockwave. The complicated four-track running gear would have been expensive to produce, maintain and repair, but the main reason that it didn’t enter production was that in 1960 it was decided that the Soviet Union would move away from using any Heavy Tanks (over 37 metric tons).
• This is the sole survivor of the three built and is on display in what is best known as Hall1 of the Kubinka Tank Museum, although its official title is now Pavilion 1 in Area 2 of the Park Patriot museum.
